caption: NEMA officials at the scene of explosion

Four persons were injured in today’s explosion of a Petroleum Motor Spirit barge belonging to MRS petroleum company, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has said.

A spokesperson confirmed this in a short text message to SaharaReporters.  He also stated that the fire was put out by emergency services in the area.
The huge explosion, which was followed by fire balls, had residents and workers in the area in a panic.

The explosion happened at a facility jointly owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote and his brother Sayyau Dantata.  It comes on the heels of newly-unveiled borrowing of $1.5 billion by the badly mismanaged Nigeria National Petroleum Company and a fresh release of N161 billion to oil importers by the Minister of Finance.

A combined team of oil importers stole and shared over $6.5 billion in oil subsidy funds last year.

The Nigeria government and its anti-corruption police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, claim to be working hard to put an end to the daylight robbery, but the effort so far lacks substance.
